The Brief: The final output is a poster that contains the following: daily heights of high/low tides; sunrise and sunset times; corresponding moon phases; general description on the science of tides. This assignment will require that you work towards creating a poster that can inform a broad audience with clarity, as well as utilizing typography and color to display information in a fashion that departs from the plain and banal forms that plagues science textbooks, government documents, and your math professor's PowerPoint slides.
The Inspiration: The poster is inspired by the colors of Oregon. The deep, dark green of the forest is accented with electric lime, representing the vibrant energy of the athletic community of runners and bicyclists in the region. Hues of orange and red complement the greens to tie the piece together. The form of the poster is inspired by scientific moon charts describing the individual phases.
The Design: Using the form of the moon to represent a measurement of 0 feet, the electric lime weaves between high and low tides throughout each moon phase. The sunrise and sunset times are included to give context into the time of day that the moon phases vary. The design was printed as a 42" square poster.
